Theoretisch könnte das für eigene Allokatoren jeder beliebige integrale Typ sein, praktisch wird man das vermeiden, weil es sehr leicht zu Problemen führt. Ein größerer Typ aus size_t wäre möglich aber sinnlos, weil der real mögliche Wertbereich auf jeden Fall durch size_t gedeckt ist, was sich unmittelbar aus den allocator-memberfunktionen ergibt.</p>
