<p>Gibt es eigentlich eine Festlegung im C++ Standard, dass die integrierten Typen, wie &quot;int = 4 Byte&quot; oder &quot;char = 1 Byte&quot; groß sind?<br />
Oder ist das nichts Compilerspezifisches?</p>

<p>Warum nehmen eigentlich alle Leute (zumind. in großteils allen Codes die ich bisher gesehen habe) immer int (man geht ja davon aus, dass int 4 Byte hat) und nicht long?</p>

Grundsätzlich ist es so, dass Mindestgrössen vorgeschrieben sind. Das heisst char hat mindestens 8 Bit, ein short mindestens 16 und long mindestens 32. Allerdings gibt es eine Reihenfolge:</p>
<pre><code>char &lt;= short &lt;= int &lt;= long
</code></pre>
<p>Könnte also auch sein, dass alle 32 Bit haben..</p>
