- Wißt Ihr wie schwierig es ist Linux (Debian oder Ubuntu) auf einem Acer Notebook zu installieren? (Bei Notebooks wird einem eigentlich immer nur IBM empfohlen "wenn man keinen Ärger haben will") Speziell geht es mir ums WLan.

- Das man auf einem solchen Notebook keine HighEnd Spiele spielen kann ist mir klar. Aber sowas wie Doom3 wird doch wohl gehen?

- Wißt Ihr wie lange die Akkus halten? Was ist die maximalzeit wenn nur ein PDF Reader offen ist? Im Internet steht sowas wie 2,25h. Ist das schon die Laufzeit im Engergisparmodus?

- Hat jemand von Euch einen Acer Notebook?

Davon kannst du ausgehen (du kannst wohl noch ein wenig herauskitzeln mit etwas feintuning), aber bei einem Notebook in dieser Preisklasse darfst du nicht mehr erwarten. Da sind gute 2h normal.

Gehen wird es schon, doch wäre ich mir nicht so sicher, ob du damit auch Spass haben wirst. Die GMA Serien von Intel machen mit jeder Generation Fortschritte, doch es ist immer noch eine IGP mit allen Konsequenzen. Die X3100 konnte Doom 3 auf 640x480 einigermassen betreiben, bei niedrigen Einstellungen. Selbst wenn die X4500 hält, was Intel verspricht, und 300% mehr Performance hinlegt (was ich sogar gut für möglich halte...), für einen angenehmen Betrieb wird das nicht reichen. Der Sprung von der IGP zu einer kleinen dezidierten GPU ist noch immer grösser, als manche Leute wahrhaben wollen. Eine Mobility HD3450 reicht für Call of Duty 4 oder Ghost Recon unterwegs, eine IGP muss nur für die Grafik des OS reichen.

Das WLAN wird also unter Ubuntu laufen (ath9k Treiber). Gleiches gilt dann auch wohl für Debian.

Eine kleine Frage habe ich noch zum Akku. Hier ein Link auf die Ausstattung:

Demnach kann ich also beide Akkutypen verwenden. Ich würde mir gernen den 5h Akku als Zweitakku zulegen. Wenn ich nach einem Akku für das Notebook suche erhalte ich Treffer wie diese:

Vermutlich ist der 5h Akku der mit 14,8V. Dort steht jedoch:

Passen nun beide Akku Typen zu meinem Notebook? In meinem Akku ist nur ein 6 Zellen Ding verbaut, also der kleine Akku für 2.5h.

Laut Intertnet ist der 4200'er ein 64 Bitter. Aber warum sind sind sie weder in der englischen noch in der deutschen Wikipedia aufgeführt?

Opensuse hat alles direkt erkannt und es lief out of the box. Scheinbar haben die immer noch den Besten HW Support.
Ubuntu 9 lief nicht, weil der closed source ATI Treiber den neuen Kernel nicht mag und der opensource Treiber nicht lief.
Hab jetzt Ubuntu 8, in Kürze:

- WLAN lief out of the box
- Akkulaufzeit nur knapp über 1h und keine Anzeige der Restzeit
- Kamera out of the box, aber miese Qualität und schlechte Software
- Multimediabuttons funzen
- Ruhezustand und Suspend to disk funktionieren nicht (wie bisher auf allen anderen Laptops auch...)

Spielen kannst du auf einer Intel Graka wohl vergessen. Die 3D Performance kommt mir (bei nem anderem Laptop) vor wie bei nem Softwarerenderer.

Ich wollte eigentlich mehrere Stunden auf der Wiese verbringen. Also maximal einen Ersatzakku dazu kaufen.

Das Linux ohne größere Probleme läuft ist aber schon mal erfreulich

- Dualscreenmodus macht Probleme (praktisch unbenutzbar)
- Audio Out (Lautsprecher anschließen) funktioniert nicht

Im Endeffekt funktioniert Linux, aber ich kann nur die Hälfte der Hardware nutzen (und das auch nur halb so gut wie unter Windows). Und das mit Akku auch nur halb so lang.
In der nächsten Version wird bestimmt alles besser.

Wenn es halbwegs läuft und ich OpenOffice, Internet und einen Compiler habe reicht mir das eigentlich. Idiologisch habe ich nichts gegen Windows. Das kann man dann ja nebenher installieren...

WLan, etc wollte ich sowieso auf der Wiese abschalten. Bei dem Rest muß ich mal sehen wie weit ich komme.

Die CPU soll besser und energiesparender sein. Laut Internet 3h Betriebszeit.
Bei Notebooksbilliger.de bekommt man das Ding schon für 385 EUR wenn man den Studentenausweis hinschickt.

Es ist heute morgen angekommen. WinXp läßt sich ohne Probleme installieren. Doom3 läuft in der 640'er Auflösung flüssig.

An die Linux Installation wage ich mich erst nächstes Wochenende
