Mich würde nochmal interessieren, wie man das normalerweise über Telnet macht. Wenn ich mich per Telnet mit "rs.internic.net" auf Port 43 verbinde und dort "whois google.com" eingebe, bekomme ich ganz komische Antworten...

Hallo!

Im Internet gibts ein Tool mit dem man direkt per Knopfdruck aus dem Internet Explorer eine aktuelle Whois-Abfrage durchführen kann.
Die Infos werden dann in diesen WhoisAssistant übernommen und können von dort gespeichert, gedruckt, ... werden. Auch eine direkte Traceroute Abfrage ist möglich.
Ist nur zu empfehlen!
Vor allem ists Freeware (zwar werbefinanziert, aber ist doch egal, oder?)

Praktisch jedes Unix hat ein whois als Teil der Standard-Installation oder zumindestens als zusätzliches Paket verfügbar, in meinem Fall kommt es von http://www.linux.it/~md/software/ .

Das kannst du wie bei deinem FTP-Programm auch ganz einfach mit Sockets machen.
